While Cyberpunk 2077 struck a chord with gamers, I think it’s safe to say that once again Blade Runner continues to inspire a whole host of new video game developers, AAA or indie.

Blade Runner 2049 in particular, while not lighting he box office on fire, has quite clearly influenced the visuals of new games as you can see below.

Here are three upcoming games with a gloriously retro style to get excited about coming soon.

REPLACED

REPLACED is a 2.5D sci-fi retro-futuristic action platformer where you play as R.E.A.C.H. – an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body against its own will.

REPLACED combines cinematic platforming, pixel art and free-flow action combat set in an alternative 1980’s.

You play as R.E.A.C.H. – an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body against its own will, striving to adjust to human life, in and around Phoenix-City.

Outlaws are rife in a society that has sustained lasting damage and taken a turn for the worse, following a catastrophic nuclear event. Everything is ruled by corruption and greed and the ones in power see humans and their organs as nothing more than currency. REPLACED focuses on a single player experience, with a mix of cinematic platforming, pixel art and free-flow action combat.

Set in a complex gritty stylized cyberpunk inspired world combined with deep engaging dystopian story set in an alternative past.

Explore and uncover its mysteries as R.E.A.C.H. who is beginning to understand that everything comes at a price.

SAMURAI UNICORN

Set in the sprawling city of Sydney3, Klo and Unicorn must battle the rising threat of the Dream Eaters, while navigating the corporate bureaucracy of the dangerous Goliath megacorporation.

Independently produced and developed by Its Got Stealth, Samurai Unicorn is an action game that lovingly evokes the PS1-era graphics to create a world that is both instantly nostalgic, but ready to explore contemporary stories.

In Samurai Unicorn, players follow Klo and Unicorn as they go up against the Dream Eaters in the city of Sydney3. At the core of most cyberpunk games is a corrupt government and dystopian civilization, and both are heavily present in this third-person action-adventure.

Samurai Unicorn doesn’t have a release date but is likely launching in 2022.

Vigilance 2099

Vigilance 2099 is an open-world singleplayer action-RPG video game where you’ll play as a bounty hunter in a dense, cyberpunk city. Earn money and customize your gear, explore the city with your vehicle by air or ground, or opt to traverse on foot.

Whether in first person or third person, enjoy your unrestricted flight through this sprawling futuristic city. Take your vehicle to the air and soar through the mega city and towering skyscrapers. Or head down to the neon soaked streets for a drive while you jam out to the radio.
