We finally have a release date for Sam Barlow’s hotly anticipated Telling Lies, the interactive video follow-up to his critically acclaimed Her Story. In a Tweet from Annapurna Interactive, that included a new video look at the project, the date was announced as this Friday, August 23, 2019.
So what is Telling Lies all about and why are we excited?
First off, the scope and scale of Telling Lies is much bigger than Barlow’s previous outings. While it revolves mainly around the actors Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus, Upgrade), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), Kerry Bishé (The Romanoffs), and Angela Sarafyan (Westworld), it also features around 26 other actors.
An investigative thriller game with non-linear storytelling, Telling Lies revolves around a cache of secretly recorded video conversations. Starring Logan Marshall-Green, Alexandra Shipp, Kerry Bishé and Angela Sarafyan.
How does it work?
Telling Lies sits you in front of an anonymous laptop loaded with a stolen NSA database full of footage. The footage covers two years in the intimate lives of four people whose stories are linked by a shocking incident. Explore the database by typing search terms, watch the clips where those words are spoken and piece together your story.
Unlike anything you’ve played before, Telling Lies is an intimate and intense experience. A game where you decide the truth.
The story is set over a two year period. A woman gains access to a trove of data collected by the National Security Agency through surveillance of the main characters and, as a player, you have to search through the data to piece together a story of what happened, including why the people were under surveillance in the first place. As the trailer states there are 96 lies to decipher and one big truth to uncover.
