Telling Lies Trailer: Logan Marshall-Green Stars in Sam Barlow’s Latest

Annapurna Interactive released the first teaser trailer for Sam Barlow’s latest interactive movie mystery, Telling Lies. Interactive Fiction fans will remember Barlow as the creator of the award winning Her Story, which told its twisting tale through a series of police interrogation videos which the player had to piece together.

Most recently, Barlow and EKO released #WarGames, which in many ways took interactive video to a new place where more subtler interactions with the viewer gave way to narrative branching, rather than the clunkier choose your path method. (more on that here)

So what is Telling Lies all about and why should we get excited?

First off, the scope and scale of Telling Lies is much bigger than Barlow’s previous outings. While it revolves mainly around the actors Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus, Upgrade), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), Kerry Bishé (The Romanoffs), and Angela Sarafyan (Westworld), it also features around 26 other actors.

In terms of game mechanics, like Her Story, Telling Lies involves searching through a trove of video to find clues and unravel the truth behind an intricate narrative.

The story is set over a two year period. A woman gains access to a trove of data collected by the National Security Agency through surveillance of the main characters and, as a player, you have to search through the data to piece together a story of what happened, including why the people were under surveillance in the first place. As the trailer states there are 96 lies to decipher and one big truth to uncover.

Telling Lies will be released later in 2019.
