Netflix “Doubling Down” on Interactive Fiction Content

During a keynote speech in Mumbai this week , Netlix Vice President of Product, Todd Yellin , discussed the streaming company’s keen interest in producing more interactive content.

“It’s a huge hit here in India,” Yellin said, referring to Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. “It’s a huge hit around the world, and we realized, wow, interactive storytelling is something we want to bet more on.”

“We’re doubling down on that. So expect over the next year or two, to see more interactive storytelling.”

During the keynote, Yellin also clarified that any new interactive content will not necessarily be driven by any particular genre. In other words, it won’t all be dark and dystopic.

“It won’t necessarily be science fiction, or it won’t necessarily be dark,” Yellin said. “It could be a wacky comedy. It could be a romance, where the audience gets to choose: Should she go out with him, or him?”

Besides Bandersnatch, Netflix have also premiered an interactive Minecraft series as well as interactive episodes of the Puss in Boots series and Buddy Thunderstruck.
